How it would be to create an iconic outfit in a movie that stands the test of time and cultural changes? If these are your dreams, then Cindrebay’s BSc. in Costume Design and Fashion is the course for you. Cindrebay, one of the leading fashion institutes in Kerala today, knows that the fashion industry and the celebrity circle are inseparable, and both benefit from the influential status that each enjoys. When a famous actor or actress wears a certain outfit in a movie, play or music video, it immediately becomes fashionable. Some outfits even become emblematic of a certain culture or an entire generation of people. It is this kind of unforgettable fashion that Cindrebay aims to teach its students.

This course is jointly offered by Cindrebay School of Fashion and Design, and Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. The syllabus has been framed by industry experts, faculty members with decades of experience in teaching methods and the fashion industry, with consultation from fashion designers and successful members of the fashion industry.   

The history of Fashion:
This course not only introduces you to the history of fashion and trends, but also to the nuances of political and societal upheavals that influenced the dress sense of people throughout history. As students you will learn about the various periods in history and the typical fashions of the day.  The course will also help you gain a perspective on the various principles of design. It enables you to understand idea generation, the importance of mood boards and storyboards, appreciate design briefs and trend forecasts better, help in selecting the right textile and fabrics, and also help figure out the most practical yet stylish way of garment construction. 

The importance of Fashion:
Beautiful garment construction is half the battle won. At Cindrebay, we also understand how important showcasing one’s products are. Therefore, students will also learn about commercial manufacturing, logistics and distribution, marketing, and the importance of branding and showcasing the creations

Course - Completion Stipulations

Students will be awarded the BSc. Degree in Costume Design and Fashion by Bharathiar University upon successfully completing stipulated semester examinations subject to the following course requirements conditions:

  • Attendance: a minimum of 80% attendance of scheduled class hours, which includes other assigned learning activities and practical sessions viz a viz. Lab work

  • Assignments: Students should have completed and submitted all assignments, both theory and practical, that have been assigned by the instructors, and should possess the stipulated number of credits prescribed by the course.

Career Prospects

This is an extremely lucrative course, especially in India where the fashion industry has the maximum number of productions in a year, on a global level. Graduates of this course will easily fit into a coordinative and creative position either in film, theatre or ad productions, specifically designing, creating, sourcing and hiring of costumes for actors and extras in different production. One could also easily get entrepreneurial positions, working with the organization of running wardrobes, sourcing of fabric and other materials, and coordinating the costume continuity. Applicants who are qualified to apply as per the eligibility standards will be filtered based on a Fashion Aptitude Test, and will finally have to attend an Interview with a panel of faculty members.
