Milan, Once a Year

A city that becomes a working ground for design.

Every spring, Milan transforms into a living design hub—studios open, streets become exhibitions, and ideas flow across the city.

More than finished products, Milan Design Week reveals design as process, conversation, and experimentation.

For Cindrebay students, it offers a rare chance to witness design as it unfolds—before it’s packaged or explained.

"Some design lessons are best learned by walking the city where they are being shaped."

A Tradition of Experiential Design Education

Nearly two decades of learning beyond the classroom.

For nearly two decades, Cindrebay has believed design education grows as much from experience as instruction. While classrooms build technical skills, real-world encounters—with places, exhibitions, studios, craftspeople, and design communities—shape a designer’s sensibilities.

Through initiatives like Design Safari, Cindrebay enables students to engage with industry, culture, and global platforms, nurturing designers who observe deeply, think critically, and understand design in a broader context—because a designer is shaped as much by the world they experience as by what they are taught.

What Students Will Experience

Three layers of Milan design culture.

From global fairs to neighbourhood installations — each context offers a different lens on how design moves between craft, industry, and culture.

01
Salone del Mobile

An encounter with the world's most influential furniture and interior design platform — where direction, craft, and innovation intersect.

02
Fuorisalone

A city-wide exploration of ideas, installations, and experimental practices that redefine how design engages with public space.

03
Design Districts

Brera, Isola, and Tortona reveal different design voices — established, emerging, independent, and exploratory.

Reading design,
not consuming it.

  • Study spatial language, material intelligence, and storytelling
  • Track recurring themes across exhibitions
  • Document design responses to sustainability, technology, and craft
  • Reflect on how global practices translate — or resist translation — into Indian contexts

"The emphasis is on reading design, not consuming it. Students return with a trained eye — not a camera roll."

What Students Will Bring Back

Far more than photographs or memories.

Exposure to global designers, brands, and studios helps students understand how ideas evolve into products, spaces, and experiences.

From furniture craftsmanship to exhibition design — material intelligence, finishes, joinery, and spatial composition at a global level.

Students witness how design interacts with industry, technology, sustainability, and urban culture across borders.

Observing hundreds of installations and spatial narratives expands the language through which students think and communicate design.

Sketches, photographs, and observations often influence studio work and portfolio development long after the journey ends.

Experiencing the scale and imagination of Milan Design Week often changes how young designers see their own potential and possibilities.
