About Olga Litvinova

Olga Litvinova, originally from Moscow, relocated to Ankara with her family in 1991. There, she completed her middle and high school education, concentrating on foreign languages. Litvinova graduated with an Honors Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design from the Middle East Technical University in Turkey in 2003. Following this, she moved to Florence, where she achieved a high Honors Master's degree in Interior Design in 2004.

Since then, Litvinova has been a faculty member at the Florence Design Academy, teaching courses in Industrial Design, Design Sketching, Manufacturing, Prototyping, and Furniture Design. In addition to her teaching role, she has collaborated with various design studios in Florence and Turin. A member of the Association of Industrial Designers (ADI) since 2006, she conducts workshops on product and furniture design, ergonomics, and sketching, both in Italy and internationally. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of expressing ideas on paper and encourages students to "Think outside the box."

Workshop Schedule

Part 1 (2 hours)

Practical exercise for participants: design of a seating unit

  • Definition of design
  • Short introduction to furniture design and overview of design highlights from late 19th century to mid 20th century
  • Scenario writing as an idea generation method (research of the function)

Part 2 (2 hours)

  • Feedback and discussion on works done by participants.
  • Basics of ergonomics (why and how we sit down, problems related to bad seating and their solutions, postural criteria, etc)

Part 3 (2 hours)

  • Feedback and discussion on works done by participants.
  • Searching for new forms starting from geometrical analysis (research of aesthetics)
  • Related questions and answers
